Email admin@lomalabsllc.com and a human will get back to you. The app has no analytics or crash reporting, so we only know something broke if you tell us. Please do not send your log; a description and your iOS version are enough.
Common questions
- How do I bring in my history from another app?
- Export it as CSV from that app, then Settings → Your data → Import from CSV. Chalklog reads its own files and the CSV layouts of the common logging apps by their column names. Exercises it does not recognise become custom exercises, so check the Exercises tab afterwards and merge or rename as you like. A workout with the same start minute and name as one already in your history is skipped, so importing the same file twice is safe. Chalklog's own export also names every workout, routine and exercise by an id, so two routines with the same name stay two and a workout you renamed since the export is still recognised; in another app's file a renamed workout comes in again as a second copy. If the file has no workout durations, Chalklog estimates one from the number of sets, so those times are a guess.
- Why does the Watch app say "iPhone not reachable"?
- The watch is a remote control for the phone app. It keeps only the latest snapshot the phone sent it: your routine names (up to 30), the name, date and exercise count of your last workout and the workout in progress, with last time's figures for each exercise in it. It has no history of its own. It shows that screen when it can't reach your iPhone: bring the phone closer, or open Chalklog on it, with Bluetooth on. Until you have finished setup and accepted the Terms on the iPhone, the Watch says "Finish setting up Chalklog on your iPhone" and starts nothing. It starts a routine or repeats your last workout; there is no blank workout on the Watch. Routines and the workout in progress then appear on the wrist within a few seconds. While you train, the phone can go back in the bag, as long as it stays nearby. The watch never saves a tap for later: if the phone can't be reached, it says "Your iPhone isn't reachable. Bring it closer, or open Chalklog on it." and sends nothing, so check the set again once they reconnect.
- Does the Watch app use Apple Health?
- No. The Watch app asks for no Health permission, reads nothing and writes nothing, and it does not start a workout session. It is a remote for the workout on your iPhone.
- Does the app lock cover the watch?
- No. Face ID or the PIN protects the iPhone app. Anyone using your unlocked watch can see the workout in progress, last time's figures for each exercise in it, your routine names and the name of your last workout. If that matters to you, do not install the Watch app.
- The rest timer did not buzz.
- On the phone, the notification needs notifications allowed for Chalklog, and a Focus mode can hold it. On the watch, the tap is that same notification: iOS sends it to your wrist when your iPhone is locked and you are wearing the watch, and the Watch app taps you itself when it is open on screen. Chalklog asks for notification permission the first time a rest timer starts. Either can be late or missed; use it as a convenience, not as something your safety depends on.
- Does Chalklog suggest what to lift?
- No, and it never will. It shows your last sets beside each row and your records and charts. The plate calculator and the warm-up table do arithmetic on a weight you type. The next set is your call.
- What is the estimated one-rep max?
- A published formula (Epley by default, Brzycki if you prefer, in Settings) applied to a set of 12 reps or fewer. It is an estimate from your logged sets, not a test and not a target. Never attempt a maximal lift because a formula produced a number.
- Does anything leave my phone?
- Nothing goes to us or to any server; the app makes no network requests at all. Four things leave by your choice: a CSV export you share, Apple Health writing if you turn it on (which then follows your own iCloud Health settings), the Apple Watch app (it shows the workout in progress with last time's figures for each exercise, your routine names and the name of your last workout), and your routine names made available to Siri and Shortcuts on the phone. Put the phone in Airplane Mode and logging, history, charts and export keep working.
- How do I get my data out?
- Settings → Your data → Export your log as CSV. You get workouts, measurements, your exercise list and your routines as four files, plus a README. Share them anywhere you like; Chalklog deletes its own copy when the share sheet closes. Weights are written at full precision, so 135 lb comes back as 135 lb. App settings and a workout still in progress are not included.
- I forgot my PIN.
- Chalklog's lock is either a PIN or Face ID, never both, so a PIN lock has no Face ID button and no reset. If you cannot recall the PIN, there is no way back into that data: we never have it, it is not in any backup, and the PIN is stored only as a hash. Deleting and reinstalling the app gives you a fresh start with no lock and no history; if you exported your log, Import in Settings reads it back. (With a Face ID lock there is no PIN to forget: a failed scan falls back to your iPhone passcode, and if you turn the passcode off, Chalklog turns its Face ID lock off, tells you, and offers to set a PIN.)
- I changed phones and my log is gone.
- The database is kept out of iCloud and computer backups on purpose, so a new phone starts empty. Export regularly; the CSV export is the backup, and Import brings all four files back if you pick them together. We are sorry there is no softer answer; it is the price of the app never having your data.
- Does Erase everything really erase everything?
- On the phone, yes. The database is wiped and re-keyed with a fresh key, the PIN and lockout entries are deleted, and the built-in exercise list is restored. Chalklog also asks Apple Health to delete what it wrote, which works while Chalklog still has Health permission; if you revoked it, delete those entries in the Health app. If any step fails, the app lists exactly what did not complete. The watch replaces its snapshot the next time it connects to the phone.
